Superferry travel in The Philippines

Marissa and I took off from Cagayan de Oro to Cebu on the night of September 4, 2006, via Superferry 12. There are several levels of accomodation, the best being a Suite Room, the second being a State Room. I had originally reserved a Suite Room for the overnight trip, but the Superferry website froze on me taking my credit card and I ended up having to go to a Superferry ticketing office and paying cash for a State Room.

The Suite Room and State Room are currently charged at almost identical rates, but the Suite Rooms are much larger. There were only six Suite Rooms on Superferry 12, but 20 or so State Rooms. The cost for each was around P3400 (~$68) for the overnight trip.

This is a great way to travel The Philippines and I would highly recommend it. With my WeRoam WiFi card that works off the Smart Phone network, I had Internet access for the first and last few hours of the trip, and I slept through the part with no access so there was little inconvenience there. There’s also a small Internet Cafe on board, though I didn’t see anyone using it.

The food on board was pretty good, and as first-class passengers we even had a waiter and did not have to stand in line at the cafeteria-style food line.

My one gripe was that my Leaterman Wave was confiscated and it was not off-loaded at Cebu and travelled round-trip to Manila before I could retrieve it. Otherwise, I loved the ferry and all my future travel in Phil will likely be by boat.
