Magellan’s Cross, Cebu

Magellans’ Cross is located outside the Basilica Minore del Santo NiƱo, an Augustinian church, in Cebu. The cross was planted by Magellan upon his arrival in The Philippines in 1521. In 1835 the cross was encased in hollow tindalo wood to protect it from relic seeking devotees. The cross symbolizes the beginning of Christianity in The Philippines.
